SGT. RUFUS C. TAYLOR

SGT. RUFUS C. TAYLOR, served as the fourth Superintendent of the Corinth National Cemetery from July 1916 to February 2, 1929. He died during his appointment as superintendent in Corinth. According to his death certificate (Mississippi Death Certificate #4046-1929) provided by his wife, Rufus Compton Taylor was born November 15, 1848 in North Carolina, and died Feb. 2, 1929 in Corinth, Miss., of stomach cancer at the age of 81. She reported that his father was Henry Taylor of Illinois and his mother was the former Miss Marshall of North Carolina. First Sgt. Taylor served with Co. K, 18th U. S. Inf. He is buried the Corinth National Cemetery in lot # B-4161. His wife, Charlotte DuBose is buried in lot # B-3905-A and her tombstone states that she was born October 3, 1883 and died July 9, 1950.
