CALDWELL, FRANK HILL - 1902-
Frank Hill Caldwell, son of Rufus Lusk and Frances Hill Caldwell,
was born in Corinth, Mississippi, on 26 January 1902. He studied at West
Point and the University of Mississippi before taking his B.D. from
Louisville (Kentucky) Presbyterian Seminary in 1925 and an A.B. from
Centre College in 1926. In 1934 he earned his doctorate at Edinburgh
(Scotland) University. In 1925 Dr. Caldwell was ordained a Presbyterian
minister; he served as pastor at Bradfordsville, Kentucky (1925-26), and
later in McComb, Mississippi (1928-30). He has also taught at Centre
College (1927-28) and at Louisville Presbyterian Seminary (1930-64),
serving as President of the latter institution from 1936 to 1964. Upon
leaving this post, he assumed the executive directorship of the
Presbyterian Foundation in Charlotte, North Carolina (to 1971). Active
in all phases of the Presbyterian church, Dr. Caldwell has published two
religious books, attended several councils, and served on various boards.
On 14 September 1926 he married Fannie Wells; they reside at 1117
Lingamore Place, Charlotte, North Carolina 28203.
