OSBORNE, JOHN F., JR. - 1902-1981

The son of John F. and Norma Curry Osborne, John Osborne was born
in Corinth, Mississippi, on 15 March 1907. A long-time journalist, he
has worked for the Memphis COMMERCIAL APPEAL (1927-31), NEWSWEEK
(1936-38), TIME (1938-61), and the NEW REPUBLIC (1968- ); additionally,
he worked for TVA and NRA in the mid-1930's (1933-35) and as a free-lance
writer (1961-68). Married to Gertrude McCullough (9 May 1942), he has
written a book on England, and more recently, studies of the antebellum
South and the modern political scene. He lives at 2917 O Street, N.W.,
Washington, D.C. 20007.
