INTRODUCTION
How did I get started on this project? In my mind it goes back
to my high school friend Mack Whitaker's stories of his "Uncle Roscoe".
What is amazing to me is that the amazing stories which we took with a
grain of salt back in the days of our youth are now I find, upon
investigation, mostly true. [Note 1 below]
To the world he became Col. Roscoe Turner, but to Corinthians he
was always "Roscoe". Turner Hill was then and remains today the site
of Roscoe's childhood and the roots to which any real understanding of
the man has to be traced.
