        SECOND LIEUTENANCY

PICTURE:  Caption- Lieut. Roscoe Turner

        Enlisted as a private in the medical department in the regular
army on June 2, 1917, and a month later was made sergeant, first class.
He was transferred to the aviation section and commissioned as second
lieutenant, signal reserve corps, on March 19, and is now at San Antonio,
Texas.

        ...Cadet Harry Runser, of the aviation department of the U.S.
service, now stationed at Rantoul, spent Saturday and Sunday with his
father-in-law, Dr. W.J.Webb and family, North street.  Mr. Runser made
his first flight at Chanute field last Monday...

        PRELIM FLYING MONDAY

        Harry Runser, son-in-law of Dr. W.J.Webb, 306 West North street,
and a cadet flyer at Chanute field, Rantoul, finished his prelim flying
Monday, with a cross country trip.  Following the receipt of his
commission, in a few weeks he will be sent to a finishing school in the
south for work abroad.
        Runser with his bunkie, Cadet R.W. Kellar, spent the weekend with
relatives here, returning to the flying field early Monday.  Runser is a
close friend and former pal of Lt. Paul F. Baer, the Ft. Wayne, Ind. ace
who was recently captured when compelled to come down within the German
line.

HARRY RUNSER RECEIVES
        COMMISSION AS FLYER
        ------------
        Harry J. Runser has received his commission as lieutenant, having
finished his flying at Chanute field and passed the examination.  He is
now visiting his father-in-law, Dr. W.M. Webb, West North street, before
being sent south for gunnery practice and other finishing work.
