WRITING EXPERIENCE: Author of 30 books on aviation and military
subjects and more than 800 articles published in national magazines on
subjects ranging from commercial/military aviation and space to
business profiles, how-to and scientific articles.
MANAGEMENT/EDITORIAL EXPERIENCE: Curator, Doolittle Library, Univ. of
Texas at Dallas (1995- ); Assistant to Vice President for Special
Projects, Evergreen International Aviation, Inc. (1991-1994); Editor,
Professional Pilot (1986-88); Editor, Air Line Pilot (1971-1986);
Executive Editor, Air Cargo (1970-71); Associate Editor, Armed Forces
Management (1969-1970); Director of Publications, National Business
Aircraft Association (1968-69); General Editor/Consultant, Air Force
Academy Series, Macmillan Co. (1972-74).
MILITARY EXPERIENCE: Air Force pilot, flying instructor, squadron
commander, group commander, operations officer and public affairs
officer. Served in U.S., Europe, Panama and Alaska (1941-1968). Pilot
rating: Command Pilot. Highest active duty rank: Colonel.
CIVILIAN AVIATION EXPERIENCE: Commercial license, single- and
multi-engine aircraft; instrument rating. Control tower operator
license. Co-holder of national and international speed records in
fixed-wing, amphibian and rotary-wing aircraft.
EDUCATION: BBA and MBA in Business Management, University of Oklahoma,
Norman, Okla.; MA in Journalism, The American University, Washington,
D.C.
TEACHING EXPERIENCE: Assistant Professor, Air Science and Tactics,
University of Oklahoma; Visiting Professor of Journalism at University
of Dayton, University of Alaska and American University.
HONORS: Writing awards received from Freedoms Foundation,
Aviation/Space Writers Association, International Association of
Business Communicators, International Labor Press Association, Society
of National Association Publications, and Alaska Press Association.
Received Max Steinbock Award from Int'l Labor Press Assoc. for "best
journalistic effort which exemplifies a human spirit" and Lauren D.
Lyman Award from Aviation/Space Writers Association for "integrity,
accuracy and excellence in reporting and writing, deep understanding
of others, and devotion to the best interests of the aviation
industry."
